Most Common Questions Pool Owners Ask… and Their Answers

When it comes to pool ownership, there is a lot to keep track of and a lot to know. The experts at Aquaman Pools get a lot of questions about how to best care for the pool — and they are just the professionals to ask because they have the answers. Here, Aquaman Pools shares five of the most common questions they get asked and their answers:

“Why is the pool water cloudy or discolored?”

Cloudy and or discolored pool water can be a sign of many things — including an imbalance of pool chemicals or the development of algae in the water. Algae is a common problem, but it can be a bit of a pain so the earlier it is detected and treated, the better. At the first sign of cloudy or discolored water, it’s time to check those chemicals or call the professionals (and by that we mean Aquaman, of course!).

“How often should I add chemicals?”

Pool chemicals are a delicate balance, and every pool is different so there is not just one hard and fast answer to this question. However, as a general rule of thumb, pool owners should test their pool water chemical balance about once a week and add chemicals accordingly.

“Why do my eyes burn/skin itch after swimming?”

Experiencing burning eyes and itchy skin after swimming is generally a reaction to the chlorine in the pool. Those with a chlorine sensitivity or allergy may experience more intense reactions. Generally, the chlorine levels shouldn’t leave swimmers with red burning eyes or itchy skin, so these symptoms may mean there is too much chlorine in the water. The good news for valley residents is that one of the solutions to an over-chlorinated pool is sunshine! Direct sunlight can reduce the pool’s chlorine levels in a big way… so give it time.

“Why do I need to add water to the pool?”

Weather, evaporation and heavy use of the pool can all contribute to lowering water levels. And consistent water level is vital for a healthy pool. The pool water level should fall at the middle of the skimmer. Maintaining that level by adding water can help pool owners keep their pool water clean and safe.

“How often do I need to drain my pool?”

When the pool is well maintained, it isn’t necessary to drain it often. It is recommended between three and five years. However, Aquaman’s Aqua Touch Pool Purification Process is a revolutionary way to “recycle” the pool water, clean it and return it to the pool with much less waste. The pool water gets filtered through the Aqua Touch Pool Purification System, a high-pressure, multi-membrane reverse osmosis technology to remove all contaminants and restore it to a purified state. This system is 80 percent faster than typical draining and refilling and reduces water loss to 10 percent!
