The Ins and Outs of Heating the Pool

For those that love to swim and enjoy the pool all year round, heating the pool is a great way to extend the life of the pool and make swimming time more enjoyable during the colder months. Before heating the pool, there are a few things to consider. Aquaman Pools offers the following tips:

Try Solar Options — Solar heating options (such as solar panels, solar covers, solar reels, sun rings and more) are in no short supply, and they are a great way to increase the temperature of the pool water — particularly in very sunny locations like Phoenix! Solar heaters are very cost effective and they can increase the temperature of the water about 20 degrees!

Gas Heaters —  A gas water heater can bring the pool water up about 30 degrees, and it’s definitely the most powerful way to heat the water both fast and efficiently. Gas heaters can utilize propane or natural, so pool owners should do a little research to find out which type would be best suited for their pool.

Heat Pumps — Heat pumps are highly effective at warming the pool water without requiring a source of fuel such as propane or natural gas. They can be on the pricier end of pool heaters, but generally for those that use the pool in the colder months, their efficiency tends to be worth the investment.

When considering a pool heater, it’s important to do some due diligence to figure out which type of heater is best for the type of pool and its use. For example, certain heaters may be better for in-ground pools while others are designed for above-ground pools. And for those that are looking for a really warm experience, a hot tub or spa might be the best option! Hot tubs and spas are generally much warmer and are designed more for soaking — which can be very relaxing on a cold winter’s night! Check out some spa and hot tub info (including benefits of a good soak!) here.

Prior to making a large pool heater investment, pool owners should be aware of what to expect in terms of which products to use and how much they can actually heat the water.
