The Four “C’s” of Pool Care
The Four “C’s” of Pool Care
Pool care can be a tricky thing — homeowners sometimes struggle with adding the right amount of chemicals, ending up with cloudy or discolored water. But there are some sure-fire ways to keep a clean and healthy pool all year round. Aquaman Pools shares its four C’s of pool care:
Chemistry — To maintain the pool’s chemical balance, it’s important to test the water about one to two times a week. Keeping the water chemically balanced is vital to ensuring the pool is healthy and clean. It’s easier to maintain the water chemistry than to have to rebalance it, so staying on top of this task is vital. The pH should fall within 7.2 and 7.6 and the alkalinity should range from 100 to 150 parts per million (ppm). Just ensuring these two key elements is half the battle of pool care! Sanitizing the pool is essential, too. So check to make sure the chlorine is between one to three ppm.
Cleaning — Skimming the pool with a large leaf net on a daily basis is a great way to keep the pool clean. It should only take a few minutes each day, but it helps ensure foliage and other debris get scooped up before they sink to the bottom of the pool and become a job for the vacuum (which, unless an automatic one is in place, is a more difficult task than simply skimming the surface). Another aspect of the cleaning is brushing the pool interior walls and bottom with a brush attached to a telescopic pole. Be sure to get the steps, the ladders and hard-to-reach places that the vacuum might miss. The brush can help loosen dirt that the vacuum can then suck up. An automatic pool cleaner in a valuable investment to keep the pool clean and save time.
Circulation — Circulation is highly underestimated when it comes to how it impactful it is in keeping your pool clean and healthy. A well-circulated pool is a healthy one because moving the water around keeps it from becoming stagnant and turning into a breeding ground for algae and other bacteria. While circulation of the water (like circulation in the body) is really a 24/7 job, it’s not often budget friendly to run the pump that much. However, in the summer, when it’s, the pool is getting a lot of use and the water temps start to rise, it should be run at least eight to 12 hours per day. In the colder seasons, it can be run between four and six hours per day. A variable speed pump can be useful in saving money as well as running the pump during off hours. Clearing out the pump and filter baskets is another helpful way to ensure the water can get through the filter system properly.
Consistency — Consistency is the final “C” because a sparkling clean pool does require routine maintenance. The good news is a healthy, clean pool is much easier to keep healthy and clean than one that has become unbalanced or dirty… so the reward of being consistent is that the job of keeping a clean pool clean isn’t that tough!
However, if it ever becomes to challenging or time consuming, the professional pool technicians at Aquaman Pools are standing by! So give them a call and let them manage the four Cs.
